i don't think i'd make a good movie critic. i don't have many insightful things to say about film. i have seen many films, however, and i have my opinions. from time to time i guess i'll share them.
saw District 9 last night. went to the movies by myself for the first time in a long time. i used to do it nearly every day. i used to see every movie that came out, regardless of its quality. those were good times. carefree.... but i digress. any who, for right or for wrong i was expecting District 9 to be really good. i did enjoy it, but it wasn't really good. it was pretty much just okay. i'm a sucker for "post apocalyptic" themes and, while this doesn't technically qualify, it's sort of similar. i also liked the image of a stalled ufo hanging over johannesburg. looked pretty darn cool in the trailers.
so what was it that disappointed me? i can't quite put my finger on it. the film seemed to make a concerted effort to be "deep" but not too deep in order to pack it full of action. i think the result was luke warm action and a luke warm story. must be a hard mix to get right. better luck next time.
